About Us

The Appalachian Fertility and Endocrinology Center (A.F.E.C.) is dedicated to the understanding, research and treatment of women’s health issues. It was created in response to what appears to be a growing epidemic of health problems in women over the last 50 years. The A.F.E.C. is predominantly focused on proper management of natural hormones in women.

Pickens A Gantt M.D. is the medical director at A.F.E.C.  Dr. Gantt was Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as Reproductive Endocrinology in 1981.  He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia.  His internship took place at The Medical Center in Columbus, GA, and he completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC. He received the Outstanding Attending Physician Award and the Bristol Family Practice award in 1988.

Since 1981, he has established a practice in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in the Tri-Cities.  He is a Diplomate and Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is certified in GYN ultrasound.  He has served as medical director of the Andrology Department and Invitro Fertilization Clinic since its inception in 1989, and has served as a clinical adjunct faculty member in the Department of OB/GYN at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine.

Dr. Gantt is a member of the American Medical Association, the Association of Gynecological Laparoscopist, the American Fertility Society, and the Tri-Cities OB/GYN Society where he has served as secretary-treasurer, vice president and president.  Dr. Gantt has extensive experience in laparoscopic surgery and is certified by the Accreditation Council for Gynecological Endoscopy.
